What is a herbal inhaler?

A herbal inhaler is a small vessel filled with natural botanicals and essential oils. You open it, hold it close to your nose and take a deep breath. Herbal inhalers have been used across Vietnam, Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia for generations as a portable form of aromatherapy. AN ORI's version is carved from solid wood rather than plastic.

How do you use the First Breath herbal inhaler?

Twist the lid to open. Hold it close to your nose and inhale as needed. Close it again to preserve the aroma.

How long does it last?

The aroma typically lasts 3 to 6 months after opening, depending on how often it is used. Best used within 24 months of manufacture.

What is inside the blend?

Fourteen botanicals and essential oils, listed by weight: Natural Menthol, Lemon Eucalyptus Oil, Organic Mountain Chrysanthemum, Lemon Peel Oil, Camphor Oil, Organic Ginger Root, Wild Mint Oil, Eucalyptus Leaf Oil, Plai Oil, Organic Lemongrass, Organic Star Anise, May Chang Leaf Oil, Patchouli Oil and Organic Cassia Bark. No synthetics and no additives.

Is the menthol natural or synthetic?

Natural. Menthol is close to half the blend and it is the reason the first breath feels cold. Most menthol used in commercial products is synthetic. AN ORI uses natural menthol.

What is wild mountain chrysanthemum?

A flower that grows on a single mountain in northern Vietnam and blooms once a year, taking three full seasons before it is ready. It was found by Dinh dynasty soldiers and later brought to the imperial court, where it was known as the chrysanthemum offered to the king. It is the note that makes the blend distinctive, and the reason each production run is small.

How to use

1. Twist the lid counterclockwise to open.

2. Hold the inhaler close to your nose, breathe in slowly, and exhale through your mouth.

3. To go deeper, gently press one nostril closed with a finger and hold the inhaler as close as possible to the other. Breathe in, then switch sides.

Absolutely love it! Growing up Vietnamese, I used inhalers all the time as a child, and this feels both nostalgic and like an elevated adult version. It's truly a little portable mindfulness toolkit. Inhaling deeply one nostril at a time (alternating sides) works wonders! It's such a simple little ritual that helps me relax and feel more present. The air is drier now so my nose is often blocked when I wake up and this came right on time! It is so perfect for my sensitive nose. I could smell the scene through the box before I even opened it and fully expected it to blast me in the face but it’s soft, just-right and the scent actually lingers. The chrysanthemum keeps it from feeling medicinal too
